Keeping Away a Bladder Yeast Infection
By Brad Grayson
In some cases, a bladder infection can be connected to a yeast infection. This is because the antibiotics that are given for a bladder infection kill all types of bacteria, including the good bacteria that keep yeast at bay. When these are gone, yeast tends to multiply out of control, causing a yeast infection. In addition, the symptoms of the two overlap, so it can be difficult to tell whether you have a bladder infection or a yeast infection. However, some of the same things can be done to prevent both, so your bladder yeast infection health are tied to each other. Additionally, if you can find natural ways of curing a bladder infection, you will not develop a subsequent yeast infection.
The things that you drink can have a big impact on the health of your bladder and go a long way toward preventing yeast infections. Make sure that you are drinking plenty of water and urinating often. This flushes out the bladder and helps keep a yeast infection from developing. Unsweetened cranberry juice is also a very good drink. It can help prevent bladder yeast infections because it is very acidic. As a result, it causes the urine to become acidic as well. This kills the bacteria that can cause both types of infections.
There are also some things that a person should avoid if they want to keep from developing a bladder yeast infection. For example, both alcohol and caffeine are irritating to the bladder. Additionally, they can be a food source for yeast. So these things should be eliminated from the diet, or at least reduced, if you don't want to develop a bladder or yeast infections. In addition, refined sugar is the main food source for yeast. Because of this, a person who has an infection, or wants to keep from getting one, should eat as little as possible.
Another thing that can be useful in treating both types of infections is herbs. Uva Ursi, for example, has antiseptic properties which can be used to treat a bladder yeast infection. As a tea, it can be drank three or four times a day. It does taste bitter, though, and can cause nausea in children and some adults. Moreover, it can become toxic if used too much, so do not take it for longer than a couple of days. It should not be taken by pregnant women at all. Other helpful herbs include buchu leaves and parsley. However, if your symptoms persist, it is important to talk to a doctor.
